Rye FSC Home Club and Associate Members are invited to perform their competition program

on private ice in a setting similar to a competition. Technical Specialist & Technical Controller Dana Hordyszynski and Gold Level Judge Jill Mueller will be critiquing. Rye FSC 2019 National Skating Month

Free Skating Exhibition, Jan 19, 2019 at WSA

 

Rye FSC hosted our 2019 National Skating Month Exhibition on Saturday, January 19th in partnership with Westchester Skating Academy. This half-hour event was an opportunity to showcase the many different disciplines of skating in which Rye FSC home club members specialize. Performers included Sarah DeCillis (Intermediate Freestyle), Jenna Feldman (Novice Excel Freestyle), Sam Hodman (Novice Solo Dance), Emma Lovett (Preliminary Freestyle), Kayla Molina (PreJuvenile Showcase), Skyliners Beginner Synchronized Skating Team and Team Image Intermediate Synchronized Skating Team. Thank you to everyone who helped make the event a success. And congratulations to the winner of our NSM Raffle Basket - Tiffany Goldey!

Rye FSC was excited to once again host the free seminar, "Skating Into College," on Monday, January 7th, 2019 at Westchester Skating Academy. Rye FSC Collegiate Members Kelsey Bialo, Lucy Briody and Stephanie Achoa led an engaging and highly-informative discussion on balancing academics, social life and skating on campus. The panel explained the different forms of campus skating including Intercollegiate, Collegiate and Synchronized skating, along with coaching.

Rye FSC Regionals Send-Off Party!

Rye FSC is proud to have six home club members who competed in the 2019 North Atlantic Regional Championships, October 17-21, 2018 in Lake Placid, NY: Caitriona Curry (Intermediate), Paula Dantzig (Juvenile), Sarah DeCillis (Juvenile), Keira Lash (Juvenile), Alexandra McGuire (Juvenile), and Kaitlin O'Brien (Intermediate). Our send-off party on Sunday, October 14th at Playland Ice Casino featured performances by each skater, free ice time for members to skate with the competitors afterwards, plus refreshments and dessert! Big congrats to our competitors!!

Rye FSC is pleased to announce our new Collegiate Liaisons, Kelsey Bialo and Lucy Briody. Kelsey (Columbia University) and Lucy (Colgate University) are long-time Rye FSC members and are now available as a resource for all Rye FSC Home Club members who are entering or in college and graduate school.  If you are a parent or a skater in high school with collegiate skating questions, you can contact our liaisons through Rye FSC Collegiate Programs Co-Chairs at NBergerPhD@aol.com or amyhodman@gmail.com.

 

Rye FSC Annual Awards

and Member Recognition Party

The Rye FSC Annual Awards and Recognition Party celebrated our home club members who passed tests from May 1, 2017 - April 30, 2018! On the evening of Friday, June 8, the Rye FSC Board of Directors presented gifts of USFSA pins for every test passed! Members also received test certificates, letters of recognition, and community service awards for volunteer work. More than 75 members with family joined in the festivities. Rye FSC is proud to have not only 9 new gold medalists this year but 19 Pre-Preliminary MIF tests passed...and everything in between! Congratuations to all our deserving members.

Strong Mind/Strong Skate Clinic

Presented by nationally renowned Sports Psychologist Dr. Caroline Silby and Olympic Silver Medalist and World Champion skater, Paul Wylie, STRONG MIND/STRONG SKATE was a four-hour on and off ice clinic offered by Rye FSC on Saturday, April 28 at WSA. The off-ice portion of the clinic led by Dr. Silby was a comprehensive workshop providing skaters with the opportunity to develop mental agility to support and enhance their physical capabilities. On-ice, Paul Wylie worked with skaters to improve their body positions, transitions and deep edges, as well as musical interpretation, presentation and performance training. Thirty-eight skaters participated.

Graduating Senior Awards Recipients

Congratulations to our Rye FSC graduating seniors who were honored with the USFS Graduating Seniors Award! Caitlyn Chapey (Platinum Level), Ariel Goldman (Platinum Level), Kristen Lewis (Platinum Level) and Alysa Wells (Gold Level) received awards for the 2017-18 season, including a certificate, congratulatory letter from USFS and lapel pin. The Graduating Seniors Program recognizes the achievements of those individuals graduating from high school who continue their training in figure skating while pursuing their academic studies. Skaters must apply for the award and different certificate levels are achieved based on program criteria. Click here for more information.

Free Ice Skating Exhibition

 

Rye FSC hosted a free Ice Skating Exhibition at Westchester Skating Academy celebrating 2018 National Skating Month on Saturday, January 27, 1:30-2pm. Rye FSC home club members of all skating disciplines were  featured, including Madeline Besgen (Preliminary Freestyle), Jessica Hamburg (Intermediate Freestyle), Sam Hodman (Novice Solo Dance), Amanda Park (Junior Freestyle) and Chloe Song (Beginner Freestyle) alongside Skyliners Beginner and Team Image Juvenile Synchronized Skating Teams. Thank you to all our performers, volunteers and a special shout out to Great Skate, Skaters Landing, Team Landing and WSA for generously donating to our raffle basket! Our raffle winner - Linda Lovett - won a skater's basket worth over $425!

Rye FSC Member is a Dreamer

Congratulations to longtime Rye FSC member Kelsey Bialo on being chosen for U.S. Figure Skating’s U.S. DREAM program for Team USA synchronized skaters. The program supports skaters whose goal is to spread their passion and leadership skills to influence the lives of developing athletes around the nation. Kelsey is entering her 10th year skating with Skyliners Synchronized Skating Team, and has been a member of Team USA for three years! We are so proud of her and wish her all the best as a member of the DREAM program, at Barnard College and as a Skyliners Senior!!

First Shirley W. Bourquin

Memorial Scholarships Awarded

The first Shirley W. Bourquin Memorial Scholarships were awarded at the Rye FSC 80th Anniversary Celebration on Ice to two home club members: Karin Nagaya and Kayla Pereira. This biennial Scholarship was established to honor long-time Rye FSC president Bourquin's passion for encouraging the mastery of skating skills. The award recognizes Rye FSC home club members who demonstrate a similar passion for figure skating, and is to be used to defray skating-related or academic expenses. Karin is recognized for her determination to master several disciplines of skating, having passed her Senior Moves and Senior freestyle tests, as well as competing on a National level in Solo Dance. Kayla is recognized for her enthusiasm for skating in both freestyle and synchronized skating, as well as her steadfast volunteerism with Rye Figure Skating Club. Colette Nygren, Bourquin's daughter, presented the awards to Karin and Kayla.
